Service Information

Peterborough Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is committed to promoting the safety and well being of it's citizens. No longer viewed as just transportation to health care facilities, ground ambulance services and ambulance crews serve as the front-line of our emergency health care system and play a critical role in the provision of emergency care and treatment of a patient's medical condition or traumatic injuries.

The responsibility for Land Ambulance (Emergency Medical Services) was downloaded from the Province to the County of Peterborough on November 6th, 2000. Prior to this the ambulance service was operated by the Peterborough Hospital and a Volunteer Service operated by the Township of North Kawartha.

Peterborough EMS experiences over 16,000 responses a year, and operates eight ambulance vehicles during peak times of the day when call volumes are highest and six ambulances on nights.

The service is jointly funded by the County of Peterborough, City of Peterborough and the Province of Ontario through the Ministry of Health.
